Woodberry Forest School, located in Madison, VA, is an exceptional private boarding school community for high school boys in grades nine through twelve. It is one of the top boarding schools in the United States and one of the only all-boys, all-boarding schools in the country. Woodberry's 1,200-acre campus is the largest for boarding schools in Virginia, and one of the largest private school campuses in the country.

Major Purpose

Responsible for the day to day skilled work in the construction, repair, and maintenance of wooden and wood substitute items and structures.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs general carpentry work in construction, alteration, and repair of wood and wood substitute items and structures such as cabinets, bookcases, drawers, partitions, panels, and building structures.
• Performs duties in the general repair and maintenance of buildings and school facilities.
• Operates equipment such as skill saw, table saw, band saw, drill press, jigsaw, tractor, forklift, backhoe, etc.
• Plans carpentry projects and purchases and maintains materials and supplies.
• Repair and redo roofing projects.
• Assists in various general maintenance projects.
• Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Moderate physical activity. Requires extensive movement. Work environment involves exposure to temperature extremes. May be called in for work after hours.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements

• 5 years of experience working in carpentry
• Knowledge of carpentry, remodeling, and new construction.
• Overall knowledge of building codes.
• Good verbal communication and organization skills.

Education and Training Requirements

High school diploma or GED required
